CSS Drive Blog CSS Drive reloaded!

Date: 10/01/2007 CSS Drive reloaded!

Well, as you can see, CSS Drive has a new face! I can't quite remember how long the previous design was in place, but it must have been at least a couple of years now. And if I hadn't gotten off my lazy behind, it could easily have been 3 years.

With the latest design, I enlisted the help of Loading Deck to first create two page templates to be used as the skeleton for the design. It's always easier to refine something rather than create it from scratch. With a foundation to work with, I started modifying and adding in various elements of my own. My goal, aesthetics aside, was mainly to improve the intuitiveness of and efficiency to accessing the site's main features. In other words, as few clicks as possible to get to what you want. Important features like "Search" can now be accessed via a text box on every page, and the footer area lets you quickly glance over the latest activities happening on the site, from the latest forum posts, comments, to recent news posted.

A redesign is also an excellent opportunity to introduce something new to a site, and I'm happy to announce the new CSS Menu Designs section. It's mainly a spin-off of the old Horizontal and Vertical menu sites galleries, which was fundamentally flawed in that you couldn't actually see the menu clearly in the screenshots! This new section changes that, and also allows me to feature great menu designs independent of whether the page itself is well designed.

Well, that's it for now. Hopefully you like the new design. Send your hate mails here, I'm used to them by now. :)

I like it! (except for that all too common ocean of black, bland space at the top, which should be one of the seven deadly sins of web design!

Also, the comment counting feature DOES NOT WORK!

currently. it says 0 comments. when there are actually....ummm....more than zero comments!

(ok, I'm a designer, not a *#king matamatician!*

*ok, I'm not a **king speller either! )

Been with cssdrive for quite some time now...more than a year perhaps.
The redesign is elegant.
Keep up the good work.
Best Wishes!

"Also, the comment counting feature DOES NOT WORK!"

It does. Like a lot of functions on the site, the numbers are cached, usually for 30 minutes or so.

I like the header, the gallery menu is just alarming though.
I think I got a whiplash when that snapped open it hogs alot of space, and just seems unfriendly to me.

Keep up the great work picking gallery sites though.

i allways enjoy reading your blog its a good inspiration source for me. your new design is almost like expected just nice. i love this cleanstyle. is the three row design on the frontpage a new "standard"? at time i see many populare blogs switch to it (problogger.net for example).

have a nice day and keep on the good work!
with regards,

Marianna Michl
