I’ve noticed that alot of people have been having difficulties making things look the same across IE and Firefox. I use IE.  So I downloaded Firefox 3 and opened my pages.  Everything was all outta wack.  My text-align: center wasn’t working and my Font-weight isn’t working correctly.

This is my CSS file (now) my alignment problem is fixed.  But I can’t seem to get my font weights to look right.

body /*Internet Explorer*/ {
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 5px;
  font-family: arial;
  font-size: 12pt;
  text-align: center;
  background-color: black;
  }
body /*Firefox*/ {
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 5px;
  font-family: arial;
  font-size: 12pt;
  text-align: -moz-center;
  background-color: black;
  }
body.menu {
  padding: 0px;
  background-color: white;
  }
iframe {
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 0px;
  width: 110px;
  height: 750px;
  }

a:link {font-weight: 500; color: black; text-decoration: none}
a:visited {font-weight: 500; color: black; text-decoration: none}
a:active {font-weight: 500; color: black; text-decoration: none}
a:hover {font-weight: 500; color: gray; text-decoration: none}

.ptable {
  width: 700px;
  border: outset;
  border-color: white;
  }
.ptb /*Internet Explorer*/ {
  text-align: center;
  background-color: white;
  }
.ptb /*Firefox*/ {
  text-align: -moz-center;
  background-color: white;
  }
.ptm {
  width: 16%;
  text-align: right;
  background-color: white;
  }
.ptc /*Internet Explorer*/ {
  text-align: center;
  background-color: white;
  }
.ptf /*Internet Explorer*/ {
  text-align: center;
  background-color: white;
  }
.ptc /*Firefox*/ {
  text-align: -moz-center;
  background-color: white;
  }
.ptf /*Firefox*/ {
  text-align: -moz-center;
  background-color: white;
  }
div {
  padding: 5px;
  }
div.header {
  font size: 14pt;
  text-align: center;
  font-weight: bold;
  }
div.sheader {
  font size: 14pt;
  text-align: left;
  font-weight: bold;
  }
div.menu {
  padding-top: 0px;
  padding-bottom: 10px;
  text-align: right;
  background-color: white;
  }
div.menuh {
  padding-bottom: 0px;
  text-align: left;
  text-decoration: underline;
  font-weight: bold;
  background-color: white;
  }
div.content {
  padding-left: 10px;
  padding-right: 5px;
  padding-bottom: 10px;
  text-indent: 20px;
  text-align: left;
  }
div.top {
  padding: 3px;
  font-size: 10pt;
  }
div.footer {
  padding: 5px;
  font-size: 8pt;
  }
.etable {
  margin: 0px;
  margin-top: 10px;
  margin-bottom: 10px;
  }
pre {
  margin: 0px;
  padding: 5px;
  width: 500px;
  font-family: arial;
  font-size: 12pt;
  text-align: left;
  border: solid;
  border-width: 3px;
  }

What am I doing wrong?

I have attached 2 images One of my Page in IE and one of my page in FF.  I can’t post them cuz i don’t have a host.  But if you notice in IE my menu items and the actual content of the page have a bolder face in IE.. but not in FF… how can i fix this??
I would like the non-bold text in FF to look like the bold text in IE.

Thanks for your Time

um, I forgot to add that when i change the link weights to bold it makes them very bold. and if i change it to 600 it does nothing.

I realize now that the pictures don’t actually show what im talking about… they are 2 small…  but when you see both pages in full screen, instead of 1/4 the size you can see the difference in text thickness.

Hi Lego,

I think this is just the difference in font rendering between the two browsers in question. Each browser has it’s own little quirks and text can look quite different across the range of browsers - this can be very frustrating but there is little you can do about it. If you post a link to your page I can take a look at it for you to see if there is anything that can be done.

Thanks for the help.. again, i would prefer it looked like IE and not Firefox.  i kinda like the thicker/bolder text… its not a huge problem but it would be nice.

unfortunately each browser has its own peculiarities and little text can appear quite different across the range of browsers, it is a shame because I think they should have a pattern similar to one another, because we would save many valuable hours of work! Hugs!
