Beach Invitation Elements

While all invitations need to have proper wedding invitation wording, styles and designs are diverse, even amongst beach weddings. Though the word casual is often synonymous with “beach wedding” in many guests’ heads, more and more beach weddings are becoming elegant black-tie affairs. The invitation can help communicate to guests that the event will be formal.

Embossed graphics are impressive on any invitation, especially beach wedding invitations. On an invitation, this means that portions of the lettering or design look and feels higher than the paper itself when you run your fingers across it. Pick out elegant beach invitations that include embossed design elements, like:

* Seashells
* Conch shells
* Traditional island shell wedding horns
* Native flowers
* Couple’s monogram
* Dolphins
* Starfish
* Seahorses
* Ocean life scenes
* Waves
* Sunset and water
* Lighthouse
* Sailboat

Couples should pick out an invitation that reflects their personal style and taste, with elements that will be carried out in the rest of the beach wedding decorations. Embossed invitations can be purchased through wedding invitation catalogs, online, or through wedding shops and salons that sell stationary.

The elegance of an embossed invitation does not make it a cheap wedding invitation. Brides and grooms who want to save money on their invitations should consider making do it yourself wedding invitations.

Make an Elegant Embossed Beach Wedding Invitation

A popular wedding money saving idea is to make custom wedding invitations instead of buying them. Add an embossed beach image to a plain wedding invitation card or use as part of a custom invitation you make yourselves. Embossing a wedding invitation is a simple process done one of two ways: wet or dry.

Wet/Heat Embossing

Supplies

* Embossing ink (clear or colored)

Jewel Tone Embossing Powder Embossing Powder

* Embossing inkpad
* Embossing powder
* Rubber stamp
* Invitation paper
* Heat source (typically an iron on low or light bulb), preheated

Instructions

1. Saturate the inkpad with the embossing ink.
2. Press the stamp into the ink.
3. Line up the stamp with the paper, and then press it down firmly. Hold for a few seconds.
4. Carefully remove the stamp from the paper.
5. Sprinkle embossing powder onto the image.
6. Gently tap off excess powder. A small paintbrush can help clean up any stray particles.
7. Hold the image a few inches above the heat source until the powder melts.
8. Set aside for it to fully dry.

For best results, test out a few different heat sources and settings to avoid scorching expensive invitation paper. Use a common element on the invitations as a reference point, to make sure that all of the embossed elements are in the same place on each invitation.
Dry Embossing

Supplies

* Stencil(s)
* Embossing tool (called a stylus)
* Invitation paper (preferably lightweight, non-textured)
* Light source (window or light box)

Instructions

1. Place the scrapbook stencil on the light source, taping the ends down. The stencil’s front side should be facing away from you-you should be looking at the back of the stencil.
2. Position the invitation paper with the stencil, taping the edges or weighing them with paper. Again, the backside of the paper should be facing you.
3. Using your stylus tool, rub gently into the stencil, carefully tracing the edges of the stencil design. Do this several times, until the indentation is clearly visible.
4. Remove the invitation from the light source.

Like wet embossing, it may take you several tries before mastering the technique. Using a lightweight paper without texture makes the raised areas more prominent.

Embossed Beach Invite Tips

Follow these tips to choose or create the perfect beach invitation with embossed elements:

* Look for invitations with a few key designs embossed and not the entire invitation.
* Colored embossing powders in turquoise, coral, sunset orange, sky blue, and beige are perfect for a beach wedding. Metallic powders in gold, bronze, or silver add a striking touch.
* Buy matching beach wedding programs and thank you notes when you purchase the embossed invites for a cohesive look to the wedding stationary.
* Inexperienced crafters should avoid trying advanced embossing techniques until they have mastered both simple forms of embossing.
* Purchasing an invitation with the entire wedding invitation verse embossed is eye-catching, but may be expensive. Instead, opt to have selected words, Butterfly Wedding Invitations such as the names and date, embossed.
* Ask to see a wedding invitation sample if you are ordering embossed invites from a stationary store or wedding website.
