Hi everybody,
I am planning to start my own web developing business. First, I will be starting off at home and then seeing how it goes and will decide to take it to a bigger level. Keeping in mind the present scenario, web designing and internet based business are proving to be one of the most profitable businesses, but having said that it’s important here to deliver the best. I just want to get as much information as I can and tips before really getting into it. I am planning to start with one or two small projects and then thinking of expanding my business when having enough of work and resource. What do you people think on that?

The biggest hurdle you’re going to face is clients.  I watched my wife have the same discussion about a thousand times.  It went something like:

Client - That’s still not quite right.  I want a slightly darker blue.
Designer - This is the fourth blue we’ve made.  Do you have a picture that might have the color you want?
Client - No I don’t but I did see the perfect color.  It was about 7 in the morning and I was on a beach in Hawaii.  I loved the color of the sky.
Designer - (brief open-mouthed pause) ummmm.  OK - well if you could look on Google images and maybe find something that’s the right blue I can use that.
Client - look, I’m too busy for that.  You’re the designer.

This is taken from an actual encounter I witness.  And thus, I’m an SEO.  Want to debate whether the work was successful? - here’s your ranking report. :)

I have a lot of respect for good designers and wish you well.  Pick up what you can from CSS Drive.

And try not to let the clients get too out of hand or you’ll end up earning less that you would serving coffee at Starbucks.

Its always be a good thing to start a new web design business; but its not as easy as we think; we have to get new customers day by day; thanks.Cochin Web Design

Totally agree with you. To start a new business is always a good thing. On the other hand, there would be many difficulties on the way. Hope you can face the difficulties, and insist your decisions. Wish you succeed!

Determining what you want to do is only the first step. You’ve still got a lot of homework to do, a lot of research in front of you.

Web design isn’t a business to start on a shoestring. Like any other business you need the right tools. The “right” tools depend upon the way you work, your skill level, your budget and your familiarity with professional authoring and imaging programs. You might need to try various pieces of software before you decide what’s right for you.

I think the main thing about it is to DO not Talk! :) Seriously!
This is one of the main problems that I meet lately. People talk about many different ideas that they have or had but then someone did it faster or whatever. Basically the point is to learn, learn, learn and do, do, do!
Be careful, maybe this is profitable business but it takes time and probably you heard too many success stories.
There are also a lot of failure stories in this business.
Anyway, didn’t want to take you off the idea, just warn and motivate!
Good luck and don’t forget to share your projects to see how your things develop!
